The hamlet is 9 kilometres far from Fasano. The first evidences about a farm called Puteofaceto date back to the 12th century A.D. , it was part of the ownership of the Benedictine abbey of S. Stephan.
The farm dues its name to the sanctuary dedicated to the Vergine del Pozzo (Our Lady of the Well), after the workmen’s discovery of an image of the Virgin in the well located at the entry of the sanctuary. They found themselves in a cave, probably an ancient crypt, where there was a fresco portraying the Virgin. In that place was built a chapel whose first nucleus dates back to the Angevin period (14th-15th century). It has a wide façade with two entries and between the doors there is the niche of the well.
