Alberobello
In the area of the Murgia runs a stretch of the Sele-Calore Aqueduct, also known as “main canal”, that is the backbone of the Apulian aqueduct , the longest web of water conduits in Europe (3000 kilometers).
The extraordinary way along the conduits offers an astounding landscape: a route in the nature characterized by Mediterranean scrub and oak woods, stone walls, terracing and trulli.
Contrada Polaccaio
The route starts on the SP 225 in Contrada Polaccaio, from the entry gate of the aqueduct. Along the way there are several gates that can be crossed thanks to lateral paths.
Canale di Pirro
Passing trough Canale di Pirro, a karstic valley with a flat bottom, the path of the aqueduct stands on the southern slope that is more sinuous while on the top of the northern one there is Selva di Fasano.
The itinerary is characterized by stretches completely surrounded by the nature and amazing sights of the Itria Valley on the bridges along the way.
Alberobello
The itinerary ends a few kilometers far from the centre of Alberobello.
